How to Set Your Favorite Browser as the Default Browser

Everyone’s got their favorite browser. It saves some time to make that favorite browser the default browser. That means that when you click on a link in whatever application, the default browser will be launched to display the website.

Mozilla Firefox

Copy/paste and enter about:preferences#general into the browser’s address bar.

Click on the Make Default button.

Google Chrome

Copy/paste and enter chrome://settings/ into the browser’s address bar.

Click on the Make Google Chrome the default browser button located in the Default browser section of the page.

Internet Explorer

Click on the cog wheel icon located in the upper right corner of the browser’s window.

Select Internet options from the drop-down menu.

Go to the Programs tab of the Internet Options window.

Click on the Make default button.

Opera

Copy/paste and enter about:settings or opera://settings into the browser’s address bar.

Click on the Make Opera my default browser button located in the Default browser section of the page.

Safari

Click on the settings cog next to the address bar. In the drop-down menu click Preferences.

Select your Default web browser from the drop-down menu located in the General tab.
